Warm the milk. Pour your choice of oat or soy milk into a microwave-safe mug and heat it in the microwave for about 60 to 90 seconds until it’s gently warmed. Alternatively, warm it on the stovetop in a small saucepan over medium heat or use the steam wand of an espresso machine. Adjust the milk quantity based on your preference for a stronger or milder matcha latte.
Sift the matcha. Using a fine mesh strainer, sift the matcha powder into a small bowl—ideally, a traditional matcha bowl—to remove any clumps and ensure a silky texture.
Whisk with hot water. Add the hot water to the matcha powder, along with the sweetener if you’re using one. With a bamboo whisk, briskly whisk the mixture in a zigzag motion, creating a smooth, frothy consistency. This should take about 15–20 seconds.
Combine and serve. Pour the whisked matcha mixture into the warmed milk. Stir gently to blend the flavors thoroughly. Sip and enjoy your creamy, invigorating matcha latte!
